Share with your group a bit of advise someone shared with you that has stuck with you in your life.
Sermon Questions
Read Matthew 5:1-12.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus shared 8 attitudes that describe those He blesses. First, write down the 8 attitudes. Then, make a list of words or attitudes that describe the kind of person the world thinks is blessed. Compare the lists and share how they differ.
Look once again at the list of "Be" Attitudes. How does Jesus's promise to bless those who have these attitudes bring comfort? Joy? Courage?
In Jesus's sermon, He began by highlighting the poor in spirit. Look at Psalm 51:17, Isaiah 57:15, and Isaiah 66:2. How is being poor in spirit (humble) foundational for what Jesus said in the rest of this section?
Of these 8 attitudes or qualities, which do you most desire to see in your life? Explain.
